Elon Musk says SpaceX to provide Starlink terminals to areas affected by LA fires

Investing.com– Elon Musk said on Wednesday evening that SpaceX will provide free Starlink terminals to areas battered by wildfires in Los Angeles, while also criticizing the California government for its management of the crisis.

“SpaceX will provide free Starlink terminals to affected areas in LA tomorrow morning,” Musk said in a post on social media site X. Local media reports said that several news agencies were already using Starlink in the area, due to disruptions in cell services from the wildfires.

Starlink- which has more than 4.6 million users across the globe uses a fleet of satellites to prove telecommunication coverage, and is largely unaffected by disruptions on the ground.

The Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO also shared and reposted several posts criticizing the California government, specifically Governor Gavin Newsom, for allegedly failing to prevent the crisis.

California- specifically Los Angeles county- was battered by a wave of wildfires this week. Firefighters struggled to contain at least six separate blazes, which were triggered by a mix of low humidity, dry vegetation, and a lack of rain.

More than 100,000 people were ordered to evacuate, as the fires raged on in areas such as the Pacific Palisades and Pasadena.
